10K pace chart

Pick your goal time: the row shows the pace you need, the speed and where you should be along the way. At the end of the row you can turn it into a pace band.

How to use the pace chart

The chart assumes an even pace: the splits show when you should pass each point if you run the same pace all the way. If you plan a faster (negative split) or slower second half, the pace band and the splits calculator give an exact plan.

In a race your GPS watch usually measures a little more than the official distance, so the pace on your watch has to be a few seconds faster than the chart for your goal time.

Frequently asked questions

What pace do I need for a 50-minute 10K?

A 5:00 pace (12.0 km/h): 25:00 at 5 km and 40:00 at 8 km.

What pace do I need for a 60-minute 10K?

A 6:00 pace (10.0 km/h): 30:00 at 5 km and 48:00 at 8 km.

What is a good 10K time?

It depends on your age, gender and fitness. In the biggest Hungarian 10K races the fastest quarter of the finishers crossed the line under 55:10 and the median was 1:01:35; see the average times page for where you would rank.

How should I pace a 10K?

Hold back to your planned pace for the first 2–3 km, run evenly in the middle, and speed up at 7–8 km if you still have energy left.

The charts assume an even pace over an accurately measured course and are for guidance only. Your real race time also depends on the start, the aid stations, the elevation and the weather.
