How to use the pace chart
Pace is how many minutes you need for one kilometre, and it is what most running watches show. Speed (km/h) is its inverse: km/h = 60 / pace in minutes, so a 5:00 pace is 12 km/h.
The chart assumes an even pace. For splits towards a goal time, see the distance charts or create a pace band.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert min/km to km/h?
Divide 60 by your pace in minutes: a 5:30 pace is 5.5 minutes, 60 / 5.5 ≈ 10.9 km/h. The other way round: pace = 60 / km/h, so 12 km/h is 5:00 per km.
What pace do I need for a 2-hour half marathon?
A 2:00:00 half marathon needs an average pace of 5:41 per km (10.5 km/h). The 5:40 row of the chart gives 1:59:33.
What is an average running pace?
In the biggest Hungarian races the median finisher ran 6:31 per km over 5K, 6:10 over 10K, 5:54 in the half marathon and 5:59 in the marathon. Half of the field was faster, half slower. See where your own time would rank on the average times page.
Why is my race time slower than the chart?
The chart assumes an even pace on an accurately measured course. You can lose half a minute or more in the crowd at the start, and GPS watches usually measure a little more than the official distance because of corners and signal noise. So the pace on your watch has to be a few seconds faster than the chart.
What is the difference between pace and speed?
Pace is how many minutes you need for a kilometre (min/km). Speed is the inverse: how many kilometres you would cover in an hour (km/h).
The charts assume an even pace over an accurately measured course and are for guidance only. Your real race time also depends on the start, the aid stations, the elevation and the weather.
